BIRMINGHAM launched their 2014 season with a night of exciting action at Perry Barr - with Swedish Grand Prix star Fredrik Lindgren eventually emerging victorious in the Selco Classic.

It was all-action Dane Peter Kildemand who appeared the favourite for glory as he went through the card in dominant fashion during the qualifying heats - inflicting Lindgren's only defeat when the duo met in heat 15.

Yet following an intense battle it was former Wolves man Lindgren who took the chequered flag in the Grand Final whilst Kildemand missed out on a rostrum spot having fallen whilst challenging for the lead.

Whilst the Scandinavian pair starred throughout, American ace Ryan Fisher fought hard for his second place finish whilst Eddie Kennett put in an encouraging performance to round off the top three.

And Kennett was pleased to take plenty of positives from his first appearance in Brummies colours.

He said: "I was obviously slightly lucky to end up on the rostrum with Peter (Kildemand) crashing out, but I still managed to make the final which I was delighted with.

"It's a good start for me with plenty of positives and I'm just looking forward to the next meeting now when I'm riding with Birmingham as a team for the first time."

Kennett's place in the Grand Final came at the expensive of Birmingham colleague Daniel Nermark, who was unlucky to miss out on a spot in the decider on countback after a solid display.

Fellow Brummies new-boy Adam Skornicki appeared to make notable strides as the night went on - ending with an entertaining race win - whilst Ben Barker and Danny King both showed plenty of positives signs as they prepare to lead the club into their Elite League opener at Wolverhampton on Monday.

Peter Kildemand 15, Freddie Lindgren 14, Ryan Fisher 11, Edward Kennett 9, Daniel Nermark 9, Ben Barker 8, Adam Skornicki 7, Chris Harris 5, Danny King 5, Adam Roynon 3, Josh Auty 2, Ty Proctor 2.

FINAL: Lindgren, Fisher, Kennett, Kildemand.
