GRAND Prix star Chris Harris warmed up for Cardiff in perfect style as he overcame a strong field to storm to victory in Jason Lyons Farewell meeting.

A bumper crowd turned out at Perry Barr as a group of some of the biggest names in the sport took to the track to close the curtains on the career of Aussie star Lyons.

Harris looked fast all night as he bagged 14 points in his qualifying heats before storming inside Ryan Sullivan in the final to take the title.

Rory Schlein took third place in the meeting - but the final contained only 3 riders as Fredrik Lindgren was forced to sit out with bike trouble.

Wolves star Lindgren was the only man to beat Harris as he bagged 11 points in his first 4 heats, but his bike packed up in his 5th ride and he was unfortunately unable to take any part in the final.

Elsewhere, Tomasz Jedrzejak and Tai Woffinden were unlucky to miss out on the final having both made double figures, whilst Piotr Protasiewicz performed well on a rare UK appearance.

Perhaps the surprise performer of the night was new Brummies man Nicolas Covatti who bagged a superb race win on his way to 7 points.

All in all, it was simply a superb send off for a great servant to British speedway.

Lyons said: "I definitely enjoyed it. We had a good turn out, good crowd and the riders put on a great show.

"In the end I was just really pleased with how everything turned out."
