BIRMINGHAM suffered a setback in their bid for an Elite League play-off place with a 53-40 defeat at the hands of Wolverhampton at Monmore on Monday.

The Selco Brummies were 16-points down after only six races and they failed to recover despite a brief mid-match rally.

They supplied only three race winners throughout the night and once again the unpredictable form of Bjarne Pedersen and Seb Ulamek proved frustrating.

Ben Barker and Danny King did well in the middle order, whilst the performance of new signing Nico Covatti was extremely encouraging.

Josh Auty top scored with 9 and Barker was solid with 8+1.

Said Barker: “We were bitterly disappointed with the defeat. We came here to get a result so we aren't pleased to be going home empty handed.

"It is going to be tough to make the play-offs now but we are just going to have to dig deep and get some results where we’re not expected to.”

WOLVERHAMPTON 53: Freddie Lindgren 14+1, Tai Woffinden 12+1, Ricky Wells 9, Nicolai Klindt 6+1, Ty Proctor 6, Jacob Thorssell 3+1, Pontus Aspgren 3.

BIRMINGHAM 40: Josh Auty 9, Ben Barker 8+1, Danny King 7+1, Bjarne Pedersen 4+1, Sebastian Ulamek 4+1, Martin Smolinski 4+1, Nicolas Covatti 4.
