BIRMINGHAM Brummies collected all three points from a terrific contest against Peterborough at Perry Barr on Thursday evening.

Brummies worked hard all down their order to repel a constant threat from the Panthers, whose big guns always kept them in the contest – but the home side deservedly won through.

Despite conceding a 5-1 in Heat 1, Brummies were six-up just four races later, and their determination was evident when Daniel Nermark grabbed a fine win over Nicki Pedersen in Heat 5.

A clash between Krzysztof Kasprzak and Linus Sundstrom after a hectic first lap to Heat 10 saw the Panthers’ Swede disqualified, but Kasprzak was unable to take his final ride of the meeting as he felt the effects of the accident.

That could have been significant, especially after Birmingham went ten points up through Nermark and Claus Vissing in Heat 12 – but Daniel King worked hard to split Pedersen and Troy Batchelor in Heat 13, Pedersen taking six points for a tactical ride win but the visitors being limited to a 7-2 rather than an 8-1.

It still required something special from Ben Barker in Heat 14 to see the Brummies towards victory, some spectacular riding taking the home man from fourth to first, going past both Sundstrom and Kacper Gomolski.

And with an advantage required from Heat 15 to secure maximum points, King completed an outstanding performance with a win over Pedersen whilst Nermark re-passed Batchelor for the vital third place.

BIRMINGHAM 50: Daniel King 13, Daniel Nermark 10+1, Ben Barker 7+1, Ulrich Ostergaard 5+3, Claus Vissing 5+1, Krzysztof Kasprzak 5, Ales Dryml 5.

PETERBOROUGH 43: Nicki Pedersen 15+1, Troy Batchelor 8, Kacper Gomolski 6, Linus Sundstrom 5+2, Krzysztof Buczkowski 4+1, Norbert Kosciuch 4, Richard Lawson 1.
