BIRMINGHAM were eliminated from the Elite League Knockout Cup after their 63-29 defeat at Lakeside on Friday.

The Brummies already faced an uphill task after losing the home leg at Perry Barr last night and they never troubled the Essex side on their own track and lost the tie 104-65 on aggregate.

Recent new recruit Ulrich Ostergaard top scored for the second night running with an 11-point score, but the Dane got little support with James Wright and Claus Vissing next best with 5-apiece.

The Essex men raced into an 11-7 lead after three races and the 5-1 from Lee Richardson and Piotr Swiderski in Heat 6 more-or-less put the tie beyond Brummies reach.

Heat 7 saw Ostergaard go for double-points and the Dane scored four-points as he finished behind race winner Swiderski. Danny King beat Robert Mear for third place and the ensuing 5-3 reduced the deficit to 27-17.

Another Hammers 5-1 followed in Heat 8, and Vissing and Wright then replied in the next race with a 4-2 over Kauko Nieminen.

But that was as close as they got all evening as Lakeside finished strongly with a barrage of 5-1s and they go through to semi-final stage of the competition.
